Mozaik invests in Urban Fitness
Mozaik Investments, through its project company M-Ventures, has signed an agreement to acquire City Gym, a local operator with five fitness clubs in Bacău, Focșani and Roman. The transaction will close once the specific conditions are met.
The acquisition is part of Mozaik's strategy to build Urban Fitness, a low-cost fitness network based on the high value, low price (HVLP) model. Mozaik expects to operate around 25 clubs by the end of this year, 40-50 locations by the end of 2027 and about 100 clubs nationwide within the next five to six years.
M-Ventures previously acquired the No1 Fitness network, which has been integrated under the Urban Fitness brand. Together with the five City Gym clubs and five more locations in development in Timișoara and Constanța, the network will reach 15 clubs. Growth will continue through both acquisitions and new openings.
The initial investment in the Urban Fitness platform is EUR 8 million.
"The Romanian fitness market is still underdeveloped compared with the European average. This gap creates a major opportunity for a business model built on accessibility, proximity, automation and technology, and a quality member experience. We see significant growth potential in the low-cost segment," said Dan Fărcășanu, Managing Partner at Mozaik Investments and coordinator of the Urban Fitness project.
The first Urban Fitness clubs already operate in Bucharest. The company plans to expand to Bacău, Focșani, Roman, Timișoara and Constanța, and in the next stage to cities such as Oradea, Buzău and Brașov.
"We aim to grow Urban Fitness at an accelerated pace, through a combination of acquisitions and new club openings, with the goal of doubling the network every year and building one of the leading national players in the industry," added Dan Fărcășanu.
Fitness penetration in the European Union is 15-20%. In Romania it is estimated at about 5%.
Urban Fitness clubs range from 700 to 1,500 square meters. The operating model focuses on digitalization and automation, with club access through the mobile app, contactless systems and digital features for members.
